RESOURCES AND CONTACTS(Much of the resource information is based on that provided by Lincolnshire County Council, whom the Isle of Wight Council acknowledges with grateful thanks) These resources cover a wide range of issues relating to the school journey. They are suitable for Working Parties, parents, school management teams, PTA groups, governors, teaching staff, pupils and school councils. This website is aimed at helping pupils to learn what they can do to be healthier, help save the planet and get fit - all on the way to school! This site has been designed to provide material to help with the teaching of the National Literacy Strategy (non-fiction texts) and the National Numeracy Strategy. It can also be used to aid the teaching of other parts of the National Curriculum at Key Stage 2, including Science, ICT, Geography, Physical Education and PSHE. Details of how this can be achieved can be found on the Teachers' Notes page of the site. These notes are in the form of detailed key objectives lists and planning grids Issued jointly by the Department for Transport the Department for Education and Skills and the Department of Health. This site aims to provide you with a way in to the wide range of information available on current action to promote safe, healthy and sustainable travel to school, including skills and what benefits it will create for you and your school. The site will show how to set up the project, identify and get the right people involved & incorporate relevant topics into the syllabus. It also features separate sections on how schools can encourage more walking, cycling, public transport use and car sharing and looks at road and personal safety issues and advice on finding funding. It is an easy to read guide to introduce governors and PTA groups to the journey to school message. There are various resources available from the Department for Transport.
