Bike – to – School

Get healthy AND green by cycling to school. There is so much you miss when you drive to school; sunshine, exercise, birdsong. Make that extra effort this week. You never know you might like it!

Promotional materials including stickers, leaflets, details of competitions and prizes will be with schools' Healthy Schools Coordinator from 1st April.

Benefits to the school include:-

Makes kids fitter

Cycling uses 8 calories per minute and improves cardio-vascular fitness

Helps kids perform better

Pupils who walk or cycle to school are more alert and concentrate better

Fosters independence and teaches life skills

Physical activity reduces stress, improves self-confidence and reduces parental dependence

Reduces road congestion

Traffic congestion outside school is detrimental to people and the environment, as well as being potentially dangerous

Enriches the curriculum

Links to PSHE, citizenship, geography, IT, science

Be safe

  • Pupils should have completed on-road training.
