SCHOOL TRAVEL PLAN DOCUMENTATION

There is plenty of information and advice available (see Resources), much of which is to an excellent standard and can provide useful background information, such as case studies.

However, in order to comply with quality assurance guidelines issued by the DCSF and DfT, and to ensure successful applications for funding (see Funding), the Isle of Wight Council has developed a standard template for producing School Travel Plans. This is based on best practice from authorities to which must go our grateful thanks, including Hampshire, Medway, West Sussex, Devon and Lincolnshire County Councils.

Although STPs produced without using this template will be considered against the same criteria, to ensure the best use of local resources we recommend that you contact the School Travel Plan Advisor.

Suggested text, and example targets and initiatives have been included, which it is intended that you amend whilst maintaining the same headings.

Look for outcomes that suit your school and circumstances, and targets which are realistically achievable. To ensure the Plan is ‘owned’ by the school, we would encourage the pupils to be included at every step, and would encourage the use of pupils’ own designs. Photographs and maps should also be included.
