MAKING, ANALYSING AND USING OBSERVATIONS AS PART OF PLANNING AND ASSESSMENT FOR LEARNING EYS/EA/370 (A) and EYS/EA/371 (B)
Target Group: Reception Class Practitioners.
Course Aims: - To explore aspects of the observation process identified through Cluster meeting audits as an area for practitioner development.
- To strengthen practitioners’ understanding of the value of observation as a planning and assessment tool.
- To explore a range of observation types and how to make and use observations.
- To explore ways of analysing observations to find out where a child is developmentally and plan the next steps.
Course Objectives:
Practitioners will: - Demonstrate understanding of why observation is vital as Assessment for Learning in the EYFS.
- Be more confident at making, analysing and using observations to plan what next.
- Understand the importance of regular observation and the need to have agreed systems in place for ensuring that it is completed.
Intended Impact: - Practitioners will be confident to make and use observations as part of the Planning and Assessment process.
- Preschool settings and Reception classes will have robust systems in place for the observation process so that the needs of each child are met.
Practitioners should bring a selection of observations made of children in their class. These will be used during the day.
Course Trainers: Jane Leigh - Early Years Foundation Stage Leader and Jane Thurbin - Early Years Development Worker.
