Leading Teachers

Help colleagues to work effectively with support staff:

The leading teacher gives advice to colleagues in establishing good working practice with support staff. Advice is given on effective systems of communication, relating specifically to Planning, Assessment and Review procedures. The aim is that teachers enable Teaching Assistants to contribute positively towards the Teaching and Learning.

Through discussion, Leading Teachers will:
  • Clarify the role of the Teaching Assistant within the daily literacy and numeracy lessons.
  • Advise on manageable strategies for pupil assessment between the teacher and the teaching assistant.
  • Discuss ways in which the teaching assistant is more closely involved in the planning process.
  • Advise on ways to support other adults in the classroom.
These are often three way discussions between the leading teacher, the teacher and the teaching assistant.
