Leading Teachers

Give demonstration lessons and evaluate teaching and learning:

The Leading Teachers will give demonstration lessons for all or part of a Literacy or Numeracy lesson. These are not 'model' lessons but form the focus for professional discussion. Visits to a Leading Teacher are most effective when there is a focus on a particular area to be improved such as:
  • Questioning skills.
  • Direct teaching to a group.
  • Use of resources.
  • Assessment.
  • Effective plenaries.
Or any other aspect of teaching and learning which is a priority for you. The purpose and focus, of the visit, should be made clear when arrangements are made. The Leading Teacher will:
  • Share and discuss the planning for the lesson.
  • Demonstrate teaching strategies or particular concerns regarding, for example, organisation, differentiation, use of support staff, etc.
  • Discuss and evaluate the lesson.
  • Offer advice regarding personal action points.
  • Be available for future
