HIGH SCHOOL SUBJECT LEADERS – MATHEMATICS
SSC/EC/16
Target Group: KS3 and KS4 Subject Leaders for Mathematics in High Schools.
Aims: - To deliver the National Strategy Subject Leader Development Programme to support the introduction of the New Secondary Curriculum.
- Some of the sessions include:
- about the personal development of mathematics leadership
- to train Subject leaders to cascade training to their teams – there is an entitlement for all mathematics teachers of KS3 and KS4 to receive this cascaded training and time should be allowed for this in schools.
Objectives / Learning Outcomes:
Autumn Term 2008:
- To examine the Pedagogy for Personalisation.
- To examine case studies of effective planning that have led to increased rates of progress.
Spring Term 2009:
- Strengthening AFL securing periodic assessment and pupil tracking using Assessing Pupil’s Progress (APP) – National Launch of updated materials for all core subjects.
- Examples of ways to strengthen periodic assessment to build a trajectory towards two levels of progress in KS3 and KS4.
Summer term 2009:
- Strengthening AFL – using day to day and periodic assessment to improve Teaching and Learning.
Intended Impact:
- Schools working effectively with the New Secondary Curriculum.
- Raised standards of achievement in mathematics.
- More pupils achieving two levels of progress in each Key Stage.
- Teachers have a more consistent view of levelness.
