SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL ASPECTS OF LEARNING (SEAL) - A WHOLE SCHOOL APPROACH.

Target Group: All staff connected with the development of young people from the age of 5 to 16. (Key stages 1, 2, 3, and 4)

Aims:
  • To understand the context for the development of SEAL and the Every Child Matters agenda
  • To understand the links between social and emotional literacy of pupils and the raising of achievement and standards in schools.
  • To understand how this can be developed through the life of the school on a daily basis.
  • To take an initial look at the school based Primary and Secondary materials, and related aspects e.g. work with parents, staff development etc.
  • To understand how impact could be measured.

Expected Outcomes:
  • To enable schools to develop their own ways of developing and delivering the SEAL agenda which will lead to the development and support of the emotional and social health of the school as a whole as well as individuals within the school.

It is anticipated that the school will seek to embed SEAL practices in their organisations over a period of time using key staff and coaching models. Trainers/consultants will be available to support this if required.

Trainers: Sue Ford, School Improvement Consultant, and Steve Hoyle, Behaviour and Attendance Consultant.

Organiser : Duncan Mills (Principal Adviser 0-13)

Venues and timing:
The initial training can be organised in schools as half day, whole day, or twilight sessions of minimum 2 hour duration. It can equally be delivered off school site if required. Both time and venue can be negotiated with school managers.

Costs:
Will be negotiated with school managers based on the time, venue and development work.
