INTRODUCTION TO THE SENCO ROLE PSC/EC/03
Target Group: New SENCOs – all phases
Aims: - To provide an opportunity for those new to being a SENCO to develop knowledge, skills and confidence in a wide range of aspects related to the role.
- To provide an opportunity to develop a network of support
Objectives/Learning Outcomes: - To know the requirements of the SEN Code of Practice including the statutory processes.
- To gain information about the range of services available for schools and how to access them.
- To understand the role of assessment and identification within SEN and how to profile pupils needs
- To understand the Waves of Intervention, how to map provision and evaluate impact on progress for SEN pupils.
- To explore the process and impact of the SEN policy.
- How to self evaluate and plan for developments within your won school.
Intended Impact: - The new SENCO will gain knowledge, skills and understanding to support the confident undertaking of their new role. This will enable them to identify and appropriately support SEN pupils as well as co-ordinate whole school approaches for SEN.
Please bring to the first session your copy of the IOW SEN Local Procedures, a Quality First file (if have one) and your school SEN Policy.
