EQUALITY AND DIVERSITY TRAINING FOR GOVERNORS
GOV/EC/17

Target Group: All Governors.

The aims of this workshop are:
  • To increase awareness of the requirements and roles and responsibilities of schools in meeting the equality and diversity legislation.
  • To help you with the self-evaluation process for all areas of diversity legislation:
    • Race Equality
    • Disability Equality
    • Age
    • Gender
    • Sexual orientation
    • Religion / Religious Belief
  • To provide practical solutions and advice.
  • To update schools on forthcoming legislation.

The Equality and Diversity agenda should be seen as important as Health and Safety.

Objectives / Learning Outcomes:
  • Understand what is meant by equality and diversity and the origins of prejudice.
  • Be aware of the legislation framework and what it means on a day to day basis.
  • Be clear about appropriate and inappropriate behaviours.
  • Develop the confidence to tackle inappropriate behaviour when it occurs.

Course Trainer: Trevor Gordon – Trevor has been working in the diversity field for a number of years, including public sector work with local authorities and in education. He has recently been awarded the Stephen Lawrence Award for his services to the equality and diversity agenda.
