EXPLORING THE ART OF CARNIVAL
ACS/EC/08

Target Group: Primary and Middle Schools Teachers and Teaching Assistants.

The course aims to provide the basic skills and knowledge to enable participants to confidently embark upon a carnival project within their school. This could take the form of a carnival day or themed art week or could lead to participation in one or more of the 18 parades already taking place throughout the year.

Objectives / Learning Outcomes:
  • explore a range of starting points for theme selection and design process.
  • Explore new materials and investigating their qualities and suitability for the purpose.
  • Testing new techniques and problem solving for the creation of costumes.
  • Understanding different traditions, cultures and celebrations.

Undertaking a carnival project in school can impact upon many current learning themes and agendas:-
  • Inclusion
  • Cross-curricular study
  • Family learning
  • Cultural Diversity
  • Involvement or wider community
  • Carnival makes learning fun!
