KS3 National Strategy – IOW Condensed Schemes of Work
The KS3 National Strategy aims to raise standards by strengthening learning and teaching across the curriculum. It is based on four important principles:
- Expectations: establishing high expectations for all pupils and setting challenging targets for them to achieve.
- Progression: strengthening the transition from KS2 to KS3 and ensuring progression in learning and teaching across KS3.
- Engagement: promoting approaches to learning and teaching that engage and motivate pupils and demand their active participation.
- Transformation: strengthening learning and teaching through a programme of professional development and practical support.
When planning the Key Stage 2/3 curriculum, it is important to ensure that it:
• reflects the school’s character and ethos;
• is broad and balanced;
• is inclusive;
• builds on what pupils already know, understand and can do;
• ensures that connections between different areas of study are emphasised.
