Closer partnerships between the high schools, the college of further education and work-based learning providers are already contributing to a more consistent approach to planning the 14-19 curriculum.

To ensure that all 14-19 learners on the island can access a wide range of provision, we have created 2 curriculum hubs to ensure a wider choice of subjects can be offered on the island in line with their travel to learn arrangements.

These are:

  • Cowes, Carisbrooke and Medina High Schools (West  Hub)
  • Ryde and Sandown High Schools (East Hub)

The Isle of Wight College, Pupil Referral Units, Special School and work based learning providers will be fully involved with both hubs.

All 14-19 provision is developing across the island and learners can assess this through the “14-19 Directory of Collaborative Provision”

Transport arrangements have been supported by a post 16 transport pathfinder allowing the purchase of mini buses for each High School, College and Special school. With the addition of “round robin” buses within the hubs and a voucher agreement for all learners on the island main carriers, transport issues have therefore been minimised.

Progression for young people with learning disabilities have been enhanced by co-operative ventures between special schools, high schools and the college.
