Council Meeting - final decision for school re-organisation

Significant changes to the way education on the Isle of Wight is delivered will be debated by IW councillors on September 30. The Full Council meeting will make recommendations about implementing the proposed move from a three-tier (with middle schools) to a two-tier education system, in line with most of the UK. The IW Council considers that changing the schools structure will help improve education standards on the Island. The move follows an extensive period of consultation.

At the Full Council meeting, members will consider the representations received into the statutory notices issued earlier this year outlining how the changes affect each individual school, and reach on view on whether they should be implemented.

In addition, it will debate which organisations will manage each of the six new schools – five secondary schools and a primary – created under the proposals through the process known as competition.

The Full Council will make recommendations to council’s Cabinet, which will meet to make the final decision on October 1. Both meetings take place at County Hall beginning at 6pm.

The papers for the Council meeting of 30 September 2009 and the Cabinet meeting of 1 October 2009, in respect of the final decision for school re-organisation have been published.
