Anti-Bullying Information for Parents. All children experience friendship difficulties – they ‘fall out’ with friends, they discover people who they do not like or get on with. Part of the growing up process involves developing the skills to deal with these normal ‘rough & tumbles’. Children with adult support find strategies for managing, such as: ignoring, walking away, seeking alternatives. It is only when unpleasant behaviour is directed at them persistently, hurtfully and intentionally that we say bullying is happening. WHAT IS BULLYING? There are many definitions of bullying, but most have three things in common:
PHYSICAL - hitting, kicking, taking belongings VERBAL – name calling, insulting, making offensive remarks INDIRECT – spreading nasty stories What to do First?
