Choice Advice Service
Choosing a school?
Advice and support for Parents and Carers

Changing schools is an important time in your child’s life and choosing which school you would prefer your child to attend is an important decision.

When your child is in Year 4 or Year 8 you receive information from the School Admissions Team about school transfer. There is a lot to think about, decisions to make and forms to fill in. The Choice Advisor can help you understand the system.

What does a Choice Advisor do?

A Choice Advisor can give parents and carers impartial, neutral advice about the schools admissions process. The Choice Advisor will advise you, but not decide for you.

The Choice Advisor will:

  • Offer impartial information
  • Help parents/carers understand the school admissions process
  • Always listen to parent/carers questions and concerns
  • Encourage parents to start to think carefully about which schools to apply to.

What can the Choice Advisor help me with?

  • Completing the application form online,or by paper.
  • Provide information about individual schools, including school prospectus, school performance,
  • Information about Ofsted reports and latest inspections on schools
  • Information about special needs facilties and provision within individual schools.
  • Times of school day and term dates
  • Information about transport and eligibility
  • School Uniform policy and what help is available

The Choice Advice Service is available to ANY parent/carer whose child is moving from primary to middle and middle to high school.

Getting help from the Choice Advisor cannot guarantee that you will get a place in your preferred school. However, the Choice Advisor will make sure you get all the information to help you assess all the options and make sure that you visit the schools which may suit your child’s needs and interests.
