Children's Services Objectives - Caring and Protecting To promote the effective discharge of statutory protection and regulatory responsibilities in an enabling and flexible manner through high quality practice standards and to fulfill the corporate parenting role through promoting a comprehensive and consistent approach to meet the social, health and educational needs of looked after children, children in need and care leavers. - Quality Service and Innovation To secure continuous improvement, administrative efficiency and effective performance linked to outcomes for children and families. - Listening and Learning To promote service responsiveness by listening to and consulting with children and young people. - Partnership and Influencing To work in partnership with Health, Education and other agencies to develop integrated services for children and families and to influence effective action and best outcomes for children looked after. - Getting the best from Human Resources Investing in staff by effective human resource planning, management, recruitment and training to achieve a skilled and effective workforce in delivering quality services. The Social Services Directorate provides a range of services to help children and their families who are experiencing difficulties. The Council in partnership with the Health Authority and the Police provides protection to children who have suffered, or are at risk of abuse. It also provides a service for children who are going through the legal process. The Council's policy is to ensure that, wherever possible, children remain within their families, or return to them following a period of care.
