As children grow up there are significant milestones that will affect them for life. Moving on from Early Years into full time education will bring with it challenges and the opportunity for a new start. Children will make new friends and they should experience a time of wonder and awe. It is important that children are ready to participate in formal schooling. The foundation for the development of physical and cognitive competence is built in the early years and is clearly a major factor in school readiness.
We need to make sure that this transition is well planned and supports the child so they can do their very best. Practitioners should liaise closely with parents to ensure continuity of experience. A definition of continuity is: "that one experience of worth should follow another in a sequence of meaningful learning". Dewey, J. 1938. Here on the Isle of Wight we are working hard to ensure this continuity. Click below to access a Framework for Early Years: |
