Teacher’s International Professional Development Programme Gifted & Talented Study Visit to Adelaide, South Australia – April 2005 Island Teachers Study Visit Focusing On Gifted And Talented Provision
A party of Isle of Wight teachers have returned from a visit to Adelaide, South Australia, with exciting new ideas for working with gifted and talented pupils. The 11-day study visit was part of the Teachers International Professional Development Scheme, funded by the Department for Education and Skills (DfES). It was organised by the League of Exchange of Commonwealth Teachers and involved five participating teachers representing primary, middle and high schools across the Island and the Isle of Wight Co-ordinator for Professional Development. The aim of the visit was to observe the education system operating in South Australia and the arrangements it has in place for supporting gifted and talented pupils.
Prior to their visit, the teachers were involved in considerable preparation work auditing and analysing provision for gifted and talented pupils in our Island schools as well as researching good practice. This information together with the experiences gleaned from the visit will now be shared with both schools and the local education Authority to help shape these services in the future.
