DRAFT Isle of Wight Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education

This new Isle of Wight Agreed Syllabus ‘Every Child Matters in RE’ replaces the previous Isle of Wight Agreed Syllabus and is thoroughly rooted in the non-statutory framework. It uses the programmes of study, the breadth of study and the eight-level scale of attainment in RE. It is written in partnership with and adapted from the new Devon, Torbay and Plymouth Agreed Syllabus with kind permission of the Devon, Torbay and Plymouth local authorities. This is the DRAFT version

This new Draft Agreed Syllabus focuses on the following areas:

  • Aspects of the subject that will motivate and engage the learners
  • Making RE relevant to the twenty-first century and the world of work
  • Place a stronger emphasis on skills and concepts
  • Provide greater opportunities for pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development
  • Provide guidance for RE in the Foundation Stage
  • Engage with the Every Child Matters agenda, Social Cohesion, Religion and the Media, and Inclusion
