85% of pupils are expected to reach at least level 5 of the National Curriculum, with a milestone target for 2004 of 75% at level 5 and above. To help schools to reach these goals, the ICTstrand of the Strategy will provide:

  • teaching of ICT capability;
high quality training to help to develop teachers’ confidence and skills in teaching the programme of study for Key Stage 3 to all pupils, including the gifted and talented and those with special educational needs;

The pilot of the ICT strand has involved just over 40 schools across five LEAs from January 2001 to April 2002. Case studies illustrating how the pilot schools tackled aspects of the Strategy will appear on the DfES standards website later in the year.
